Video not Playing...CODEC issue??..Here is the solution

On the other day I was trying to play an important video file given to me by my manager. This was a live usability test and I couldn't wait to see it. But by the time I started it in my Windows Media Player... I got the following special message from Microsoft... " Trying to get CODEC..Error! Codec not downloaded" My proxy settings were fine..No issues...But i was wondering why this error... I tried downloading the CODEC from the microsoft site.. But .... No solution yet...Same error! Checked with my manager and he told me what to do.. He has been thru the same cycle of problem..so he said to get the codec from Techsmith which solves this problem. Followed his advice and downloaded the codec from techsmith This is the URL: http://www.getafile.com/cgi-bin/merlot/get/techsmith/TSCC.exe Wow...!!! My issue got resolved. And I am able to play the video.. So whats the real problem? 1. There is no standard video client for N number of video formats 2. There is no clear indication from the leaders like Microsoft as to what should be done in such cases. 3. People end up with crude ways of solving such problems... Hope such things get resolved in the next releases of Windows Media Player and Quicktime which are the 2 standard players people rely on. ::::
